Waterfall pool and beach
As usual, i took advantage of one of the public holidays in Singapore to go around a bit. The problem with Singapore is that most people are just dying to get out and, when public holidays arrive, all the planes get filled up and fares become exorbitant.
Surprisingly, aside from Batam and Bintan, and only the resort areas there, most people in Singapore seem to hardly know Riau exists. This is great as it means I can always just hop on a ferry for a good few days of wandering about in these fantastic islands.
Pulau Karimun is small but quite fun. Seems to have everything, beaches (not particularly nice), waterfalls, mountains (Gunung Jantan) and a busy town.
Tanjung Balai is a favourite for chinese uncles and young indian coming from Singapore for their monthly pussy fix. The town is quite charming and bustling with wooden shophouses selling kopi-o and roti bakar in the morning. In the evening there are quite a few nice foodplaces and a lot of satay. Also available are loads of massage places, karaoke bars and even two clubs.

Such a pity they destroyed the waterfall with a concrete pool. Seems a very common practice in Malaysia and Indonesia. Still, quite nice and refreshing afetr a few hours of cycling in the sun.
Got called over by the local boozing gang and had a few can of Carlsberg and peanuts with them by the beach. They seemed to have some trouble understanding what was the point of cycling around their island.
